Matt Lauria
Biography
Matt Lauria recently wrapped two series: Apple's Dickinson opposite Hailee Steinfeld and Wiz Kalifa, and Sky's Little Birds alongside Juno Temple. He was last seen as the lead villain opposite Samuel Jackson and Jesse Usher in New Line's remake of Shaft for director Tim Story, and was seen starring opposite Gina Rodrigues in the remake of the 2011 Oscar-nominated feature Miss Bala for Sony. Lauria was also seen in DirecTV and ATT's critically acclaimed television drama Kingdom. Set in the world of mixed martial arts boxing, the series follows Lauria's character Ryan Wheeler, a UFC lightweight champion who returns to the gym that made him a star after time in prison. Diane Garrett of The Wrap wrote that "Lauria is especially convincing as Ryan, a man of coiled energy that could explode again. Any time he's in a challenging situation, the possibility hangs in the air."
Lauria first made audiences take notice when he portrayed Luke Cafferty, the charismatic Texas football-phenom, on the critically acclaimed drama Friday Night Lights. Following the show, Lauria worked with Shawn Ryan (The Shield) on the FOX drama The Chicago Code. Additional television credits include Lipstick Jungle, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Burn Notice, The Forgotten, and 30 Rock. He most recently was seen on the beloved series Parenthood, with his FNL show runner, Jason Katims.
On the stage, Lauria starred in Paul Down Calaizzo's play Really Really at MCC for director David Cromer in 2013. He previously starred off-Broadway in David Auburn's (Proof) An Upset. Matt is a graduate of University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
